Pushing Daisies 2.07: Robbing Hood

Posted by: admin   in Pushing Daisies News · Comments Comments Off

Pushing Daisies is back on ABC last night after two weeks of delay. The preview for its next episode which is titled “Robbing Hood” has been given, showing a new murder case that Ned, Chuck and Cod have to solve after a rich old man is found dead trampled by a chandelier.

When resurrected from his death, the old man named Gustav Hoffer says to the threesome that they have to find his will. He got killed when a chandelier is shot by its thread and falls down on him during a robbery. A lawyer for the millionaire suspects his client’s death was not part of a robbery gone wrong as was reported, but rather murder. Cod and Ned have to find out who kill Hoffer, interrogating also his much younger wife, Elise, and a latter-day Robin Hood.

Meanwhile, Lily fumes as the suspicious Dwight Dixon begins romancing clueless Vivian. “Robbing Hood” will air November 26.

The show is in the middle of talks that it will be canceled due to poor viewing rating. The production stopped at episode 13 earlier this month, and industry insiders are saying that the network are not interested in stretching the show to a full season. ABC spokesperson has come forward for this, stating that no decision has been made yet.

Creator Bryan Fuller also commented, “We have heard nothing in any official capacity. Our ABC exec was on the set last night saying they are still swinging in the fight to keep ‘Daisies’ on the air. Spirits are high and hopeful and everyone here is very proud of our work and this show.”

He, Chuck, Emerson, Olive, Digby, and Pigby become witnesses to a magic trick gone horribly wrong. Meanwhile, Dwight Dixon (guest star-Stephen Root) insinuates himself into the Aunts’ lives, but Lily is instantly suspicious of his motives.

“Oh Oh Oh…It’s Magic” will be delayed for two weeks and back on screen on November 19 to give time slot for special edition of “Dancing with the Stars” and the 42nd Annual CMA Awards.

Pushing Daisies: Frescorts

Posted by: admin   in Pushing Daisies News · Comments Comments Off

(S02E04) “Where are you living anyway?” – Ned to Emerson

Did you realize that this week’s Pushing Daisies episode is actually only the 13th installment of the refreshing series? I forgot about it for a second or two when I told myself “About time!” after realizing that “Frescorts” was going to offer us some Emerson backstory. I guess the almost-nine-months hiatus, thanks to the writers’ strike, made us long for more details about the show’s characters. In any case, let me say this: Yay for some Emerson backstory!

So Emerson’s mother, played by Everwood‘s Debra Mooney, was a famous PI who was more a friend to Emerson than a mother. It explains why Emerson became a PI but doesn’t give all clues as to why he is so secretive (the gang doesn’t know where he lives). I know a PI is more than likely to try to protect his privacy but Ned, Olive and Chuck are Emerson’s friends… one would expect that they would have least seen his place’s front door, no?

My favorite scene of the episode is definitely when Emerson and Calista performed their interrogation routine. It was hilarious while being effective. I wouldn’t have liked to be one of the persons being asked the questions as the mother and son duo was a bit frightening.

Calista’s presence didn’t offer us much to chew on (aka juicy details from Emerson’s past) but what she did provide is the needed push for Emerson to find his daughter. It’s more than likely that he will rewrite his book and that it’ll get published just in time for his daughter to pop up during November Sweeps.

Yep, that was David Arquette playing weirdo Randy Mann. It was a good casting choice for such a character. It was nice to see Ned bond with someone outside of the Pie Hole circle. And, not spoiling too much here, we haven’t seen the last of Randy but it’ll be a few weeks/months before he resurfaces.

So far, I enjoy seeing Chuck and Olive be BFFs. It will be fun to see how they try to better themselves to make their friendship work and, as I’ve mentioned in my last review, see how they deal with the aunts if one of them stops by to visit Olive. The Chuck/Olive pairing also provides new conflicts and problems for Ned to deal with. Chuck has a new friend now… maybe it’s time Ned gets a new friend too?

Pushing Daisies 2.01 Sneak Peek: Bzzzzzzz!

Posted by: admin   in Pushing Daisies News · Comments Comments Off

The new season of “Pushing Daisies” has been given a sneak peek through a clip of its first episode, “Bzzzzzzz!”. The clip will see a spokesmodel for a cosmetic company stung to death with horrible spots all over her body.

Ned, who has the ability to resurrect the dead, wakes up the woman who is badly stung in the corpse room. Led by the incident, Chuck then goes on undercover to investigate the honey-based cosmetic company and discovers that there’s more complicated politics inside the office, mainly concerning the relationship between the founder Betty Bee and the new owner, Woolsey Nicholls.

Meanwhile, Ned can’t stand her growing independence, or the fact that she wants to move out of his apartment. In other developments, Lily spirits Olive off to a nunnery so she won’t spill Lily’s deep, dark secret.

“Bzzzzzzz!” will be aired on ABC on October 1 at 8:00 P.M..

DVD Review: Pushing Daisies – The Complete First Season

Posted by: admin   in Reviews · Comments Comments Off

Pushing Daisies is latest creation of Brian Fuller whose previous credits include Wonderfalls and Dead Like Me. His newest show is original, witty, and delightful. While being an incredibly fun show to watch, it is also extremely well done and earned 12 Emmy nominations for its inaugural season.

Pushing Daisies is the story of Ned (Lee Pace), a pie-maker who has a very special power; he can bring dead people back to life. While this may seem like a blessing, there are a few catches to his ability. When he reanimates someone for longer than one minute, someone else must die, and if he touches the reanimated person for a second time they die again, this time forever. Once Ned fully understands his gift, he decides to keep it a secret and to live a life of solitude. That is, until he meets Emerson Cod (Chi McBride), a private investigator who learns Ned’s secret and talks him into using his powers to solve crimes.

One day Ned discovers that his childhood sweetheart, Charlotte “Chuck” Charles (Anna Friel), has been murdered so he goes to find out who killed her, but when the minute is up, he can’t bring himself to kill her again. He explains everything to her and she understands that she now must now live in secret. This secret is especially hard to keep from the two aunts that raised her, Vivian (Ellen Greene) and Lily (Swoosie Kurtz), agoraphobic, retired synchronized swimmers. The cast of characters also includes Olive Snook (Kristin Chenoweth), Ned’s waitress at The Pie Hole, who also happens to be madly in love with him.

Due to the writer’s strike the first season was cut short, resulting in only nine episodes. All of the details of the show are very thoughtful, from The Narrator (Jim Dale) who helps to tell the story to the distinctive visual look and camera work, all of which help bring this imaginary world to life. The picture on the DVD looks amazing; the colors are bright and beautiful. The only bonus feature is “Pie Time – Time for Pie,” an extensive interactive featurette that serves up lots of great behind-the-scenes information about the series.

Pushing Daisies is a wonderful fairy tale with charming and quirky characters. Pace is dreamily handsome. He offers a sweet innocence and vulnerability that is endearing. Friel and Chenoweth are perfect as the women yearning for Ned’s affections for very different reasons, and Green and Kurtz are terrific as the kooky sisters.

I am happy to report that the show has been renewed for a second season, which starts on October 1st, and I can’t wait. Due to the shortened first season, they will be providing enough background to capture new viewers. However, there is no reason to wait for this tasty treat when you have the opportunity to dive right in to all that Season One has to offer right now.
